[graphics] Be Peeters talk – The highs and lows of my career

Last Friday I gave a talk atย University of Worcesterย for the third year students on the Graphic Design & Multimedia course, the same one I graduated from five years ago.

But I didnโ€™t tell them about my work or show them cool skills and tricks. I took them through the highs and lows of my career, showing them how my skills have never really attributed to my success – sounds strange right?

No, I know Iโ€™m not the best at what I do. I have the skills I need to do my job to a high standard of course – but Iโ€™ve always excelled with my mindset not skillset.

Hereโ€™s how:

๐Ÿ‘‰ Never put a ceiling on your success
๐Ÿ‘‰ Apply for roles beyond your skills
๐Ÿ‘‰ Show enthusiasm
๐Ÿ‘‰ Ask for feedback – and take it!
๐Ÿ‘‰ Help others
๐Ÿ‘‰ Have the confidence to share ideas
๐Ÿ‘‰ Present well to client

Itโ€™s the often overlooked โ€œsoftโ€ skills that have enabled me to design for amazing brands like Sainsburys and Jamie Oliver, and to now leading the social media department of an award-winning marketing agency.

In our constantly changing digital landscape, itโ€™s your positive and determined mindset, adaptiveness to learn new things, confidence to articulate ideas and willingness to help others that will really lead you to success.

Well, at least it has for me ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

What would you say has been the driver of your success? Iโ€™d love to know ๐Ÿ‘‡
